Holiday greetings (and discount!) card to promote the launch of GoodieRecruit in January 2010 >>

Now that I’ve been designing for Come Recommended for a few months, Heather Huhman asked me to create a logo for her “day job” at the AOTA. I was happy to do the logo pro bono because Heather promised good exposure within the AOTA Web site and other promotional materials associated with the campaign.
Having elderly grandparents myself (whose driving I frequently worry about…), I was happy to design for ‘Older Driver Safety Awareness Week.’ The concept was difficult to envision at first, but I enjoyed stretching my imagination a bit.

This marks round 3 of my brochure designs for Come Recommended. I’m quite happy with the way they all tie together–I just know they’ll look nice laid out next to each other at a trade show display booth. :]

Though I didn’t write the content, this brochure aims to attract employers to Come Recommended as a recruiting platform.

While I typically search long and hard for free (but still legal) photos/vectors to use in my designs, I broke down on this one and just bought the images from istockphoto.com. I’ve used them before and have been happy with their system, and I think they are decently priced (relatively, of course). I was mainly concerned with maintaining visual continuity between the site itself and this particular brochure. Luckily, I was able to find the same stock image because the Come Recommended team had never been given any of the images used on the site. I’m mildly ashamed to admit (so I won’t) how long I spent looking for the perfect image to use on the inside left panel. I wanted it to reflect Come Recommended’s mission–connecting high-quality candidates with high-quality employers–while also meshing well with the brochure’s color scheme. Somehow I lucked into this image, which uses colors that are extremely close to Come Recommended’s corporate color scheme. Although I suppose it wasn’t quite luck… I did scan through istockphoto search results for almost three hours…
I recently finished up another campaign logo for Come Recommended‘s “Come Recommended Comes To Your City” campaign. This one had to look good (and still be legible) at a much smaller size, so I tried to be somewhat simple in my design and leave a good bit of space between characters.

It’s not flashy, but it works.
I have loved everything about joining the Come Recommended team—not least of all the wonderful people I have come in contact with!
Rachel Esterline and I struck up a conversation via Skype after my first Come Recommended weekly team chat. It wasn’t hard to relate to her situation, seeing as I was just there—a communications student ready to conquer the world with my college education. [Still working on the conquering...]
We eventually started discussing our portfolios, and Rachel mentioned that she was looking to update her site and might want a new logo. In her kindness, Rachel offered to pay me, but my conscience just couldn’t handle charging another soon-to-be job seeker.
Plus… I really like making logos.
Anyway. All that to say: here it is! Once midterms are over and the poor girl has time to develop her new site, this will be Rachel’s new logo.

The past week or so with Come Recommended has been a whirlwind! After submitting both a logo and a brochure in the past week, it’s on to brochure #2. This time, it’s an informational brochure on booking speaking engagements with Come Recommended founder and president, Heather Huhman.
I wanted to make sure her different brochures related to one another, but we certainly didn’t want a carbon copy or anything like that. I do think it’s important though to maintain some consistency in design across a communications campaign, so consumers maintain recognition of your brand/image/feel.
That being said, I kept many of the design elements the same in this brochure as in the CR|PR brochure. I did change the background color and add in a few unique elements though to keep the design fresh and interesting.
